QuotaHalo Support & FAQ

Setup guidance and troubleshooting for quota, Local Token Activity, Edge, Tray, and Launch at Login.

Getting Started

How do I install QuotaHalo?

Open QuotaHalo after it is installed from its authorized Mac App Store distribution. QuotaHalo does not provide a direct installer and does not bundle Codex.

What happens the first time I open QuotaHalo?

A manual launch presents the main QuotaHalo window. Open Settings to authorize the Codex features you want. Quota and Local Token Activity have separate authorization steps, and Local Token Activity remains off until you enable it.

How do I authorize the Codex executable?

In QuotaHalo Settings, under Data Access & ChatGPT Login, selectChoose Codex and choose the Codex executable you trust. QuotaHalo validates the selected executable and may ask you to choose it again after it changes.

How do I connect quota to my ChatGPT account?

After authorizing Codex, select Sign in with ChatGPT. QuotaHalo starts the explicit Device Code flow and opens the secure verification page. It does not read or parse your existing Codex credentials and does not begin login without your action.

How do I enable Local Token Activity?

In Settings, select Choose Codex Data Directory, choose the local Codex data directory, then turn Token Activity on. Directory authorization alone does not enable activity observation.

Quota & Account Troubleshooting

Why does Codex need authorization again?

QuotaHalo stops using an authorization when the selected executable is missing, changed, or no longer matches its validated identity. Choose Codex again in Settings. QuotaHalo will not silently trust a different executable or open a picker in the background.

Why does quota say I am signed out?

QuotaHalo asks the authorized Codex app-server for current account state. If it reports no signed-in ChatGPT account, rate limits are not requested. Use Sign in with ChatGPT only when you want to reconnect.

Why is my quota gray or marked as last known?

A cached snapshot is shown as last-known data until a new account and rate-limit request succeeds. QuotaHalo retries temporary failures with a bounded backoff. You can select the circular Refresh control once to request an immediate refresh.

What should I do if quota refresh keeps failing?

Confirm that the authorized Codex executable still exists and that QuotaHalo shows your account as signed in. Choose Codex again if authorization is required, then try Refresh. QuotaHalo does not infer missing rate-limit windows or turn cached data into a fresh result.

How do I sign out of QuotaHalo quota access?

In Settings, select Sign Out of ChatGPT, then select the confirmation action. This stops QuotaHalo's quota polling and signs out its separate sandboxed login. It does not sign you out of ChatGPT.app or change your Token Activity source.

Local Token Activity

What is Local Token Activity?

Local Token Activity turns locally observed Codex activity metadata into recent activity, optional aggregate history, and a personal activity reference. It is separate from quota.

Local Token Activity is based on activity observed locally by QuotaHalo. It is not official OpenAI billing usage or official token consumption.

Why is Local Token Activity off?

It is off by default and does not turn on when you authorize a directory. Choose a Codex data directory and enable Token Activity in Settings when you want to use it.

Why is Local Token Activity empty or stale?

The first healthy read establishes a baseline, so it does not report earlier activity as new. Confirm that Token Activity is on, the selected directory is still available, and Codex has produced supported local activity. QuotaHalo does not backfill the time while observation is paused or off.

How do I fix a Local Token Activity source error?

Select Choose Codex Data Directory again and choose the intended local source, then use the in-app Retry action. QuotaHalo opens the supported database read-only and does not modify Codex tasks or content.

What does Local Token Activity read?

It reads only the supported local cumulative metadata needed for anonymous activity differences. It does not read prompts, responses, source code, project names, or project paths. Raw thread identifiers are used only in memory and are not persisted or sent to the UI. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Local Data Controls

How do I clear activity history?

In Settings, under History & Personal Profile, select Clear 30-Day History, then select the confirmation action. This removes the optional aggregate history without resetting the Personal Activity Baseline or changing Codex.

How do I reset my Personal Activity Baseline?

In the same Settings section, select Reset Personal Activity Profile, then confirm. This resets the local profiles with and without sub-agent activity but does not clear the separate 30-day history.

How do I clear the last-known quota cache?

In Settings, under Data Sources, select Clear Quota Cache. This does not delete activity history or the Personal Activity Baseline.

Edge, Tray & Window Behavior

What should happen when I open QuotaHalo manually?

A Finder, Spotlight, Launchpad, or Dock launch brings the existing QuotaHalo process to the foreground and presents its main window. Opening it again wakes the same instance; it should not create another Tray item or long-running second process.

How do I show QuotaHalo from the menu bar?

Select the QuotaHalo menu-bar item and choose Show QuotaHalo. This shows the existing main window rather than starting another app instance.

How does the Edge Tab work?

When Edge docking is enabled, move the compact window to the left or right screen edge. It can collapse to an Edge Tab. A passive hover may reveal the docked surface without forcing app activation; an explicit click makes QuotaHalo interactive.

Why can QuotaHalo start without showing a window?

With Launch at Login enabled, the sandboxed Login Helper opens QuotaHalo in a quiet background mode. It restores the Tray and supported Edge state without stealing focus. A later explicit Edge, Tray, or app-open action presents the existing app.

Launch at Login & Uninstalling

How do I enable Launch at Login?

Turn Launch at Login on in QuotaHalo Settings. If macOS requires approval, use QuotaHalo's Open Login Items Settings action and allow the QuotaHalo helper in System Settings.

How do I disable Launch at Login?

Turn Launch at Login off in QuotaHalo Settings. If macOS still lists a disabled item, that system record does not mean the helper remains enabled.

How do I uninstall QuotaHalo?

First turn Launch at Login off, quit QuotaHalo, and remove the app using the standard macOS app-removal method. Deleting the app may not remove all sandboxed app data. QuotaHalo 1.0.0 does not provide one Erase All Data control.

Privacy & Release Information

Is QuotaHalo an OpenAI product?

No. QuotaHalo is an independent product and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. It works with a Codex executable that you select and authorize.
